AQA and Edexcel are my main specialisms, the two I teach week in, week out. That covers Chemistry at A-Level and GCSE (Separate Science and Combined Science), Edexcel for A-Level Maths, and AQA and Edexcel for GCSE Maths.

I also work regularly with OCR A and B, Cambridge CIE and Edexcel IGCSE too. My specialism is the subject itself rather than any one specification, so whichever board your school enters you for, tuition is targeted at that syllabus.

I hold an MSc (Hons) in Chemistry from Imperial College London, and trained as a teacher at UCL’s Institute of Education, holding a PGCE with QTS. I have taught A-Level Chemistry full-time for ten years, and tutored Maths and Chemistry one-to-one for over a decade alongside it. I currently teach at one of London’s top-performing sixth-form colleges. In practice that means I’m teaching A-Level from well above its ceiling. Nothing in the specification is at the edge of what I know, so the hard conceptual questions get a real answer rather than a deflection.

I’m still teaching, full-time. Most private tutors left the classroom some years ago. I teach across the full ability range daily, so I can tell quickly whether a student needs foundations rebuilt, technique taught or precision sharpened. And I teach both Chemistry and Maths, which matters because a great many Chemistry problems turn out to be maths problems in disguise.

Yes. I hold an Enhanced DBS check for the child workforce, maintained through my full-time teaching role, and I am registered with the DBS Update Service, so its current status can be verified online rather than taken on trust.

Both, and the rate is exactly the same either way. There is no surcharge for face-to-face sessions.

Online sessions use a shared digital whiteboard, so working is visible in real time and saved afterwards. For Chemistry and Maths this works genuinely well, and many families prefer it for the flexibility.

In-person slots are limited by area and by availability: I teach full-time, so I keep face-to-face sessions close to home. The areas I cover are listed below.

Yes, small groups of two or three students. They need to be on the same exam board and tier and working at a broadly similar level, otherwise nobody gets what they need. Siblings and school friends are the most common arrangement.

Groups are priced per group rather than off a list, because no two are the same. Get in touch and I will quote for the one you have in mind.

Exam technique improvements often show up within two or three sessions, because they’re about how existing knowledge is presented. Content gaps take longer, typically six to ten sessions to rebuild a weak foundation properly. I’ll give you an honest assessment after the diagnostic session rather than a generic promise.

One-to-one tuition is £70 per hour for GCSE and £80 for A-Level, Maths or Chemistry alike, the same rate whether we work online or in person. Booking a block of 6 or 12 brings that down by £5 or £10 per hour. Small groups of two or three students are priced per group; get in touch and I’ll quote. It’s diagnostic. We work through recent work or a past paper section together, and I identify what’s actually going wrong, which is often narrower and more specific than the student expects. I’ll tell you what I think is going on and how I would approach it, and we agree the plan for the sessions that follow.

Yes. I work with resit students, private candidates and adult learners returning to study. The approach is the same: diagnose, target, build technique.

More than 24 hours’ notice and we reschedule free of charge. Less than 24 hours and the session is charged. If I ever need to cancel, your session is rescheduled at no cost. The full wording is in the Terms.

Absolutely. For under-18s, a parent or guardian is always welcome to be present or nearby, whether sessions are in person or online. Many parents sit in on the first session.

Securely by card through Stripe, including Apple Pay and Google Pay. If you’d prefer an invoice, just ask and I’ll send one payable by card or bank transfer. I never see or store your card details.

Yes, but deliberately short: usually two or three targeted questions rather than a full past paper. Focused practice with feedback beats volume every time.

I teach full-time, so I see what schools are already setting. Students are carrying coursework, mocks and homework across every subject, and piling more on top of that helps nobody. What I set is meant to fit into an evening alongside everything else, and if a week is genuinely impossible, say so and we will work around it.

Yes, in writing. A Half-Term Block includes a written progress summary at the end. A Term Block includes two: one at the mid-point and one at the end. Each covers what we have worked on, what has improved and what is next.

Yes, both. AQA Trilogy and Edexcel Combined Science, alongside the separate GCSE Chemistry specifications.

I work primarily with students in London and Hertfordshire, but I take a small number of overseas students online: Pearson Edexcel International A Level and International GCSE. Availability is limited to UK evenings and weekends, so it depends on the time difference. See International Enquiries for details.

In person across Potters Bar, Cuffley, East Barnet, New Barnet, Cockfosters, Southgate, Whetstone, North Finchley and Finchley Central. I don’t travel beyond that. Online anywhere in the UK, at the same rate. If you’re just outside the area, do ask and I’ll let you know what I can offer.
