Safeguarding Statement

My commitment

Most of my students are children. The welfare of the child comes before the tuition, before the schedule, and before my own convenience, including in the rare case where acting on a concern would cost me the work.

I teach full-time in a sixth-form college and follow its safeguarding procedures there. Working privately does not lower that standard, so the commitments below apply to every session I teach.

Checks and registrations

• I hold an Enhanced DBS check for the child workforce, maintained through my full-time teaching role.
• I subscribe to the DBS Update Service, which means the certificate’s current status can be verified online, not just the date it was issued.
• I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office for data protection under registration number ZC222332.

Boundaries I keep

• A parent or guardian is welcome to be present, or within earshot, at any session, in person or online. Many parents sit in on the first one.
• For students under 18, scheduling and progress communication goes to the parent or guardian, not directly to the student, unless the parent has explicitly agreed otherwise.
• I do not contact students under 18 on personal social media, messaging apps or private accounts.
• In-person sessions take place in a communal or visible room in the family home, with an adult present in the property.
• Online sessions use a standard video platform and a shared whiteboard. Sessions are not recorded.
• I keep the minimum personal data I need, for the shortest time I need it. See the privacy policy.
